I was thinking yesterday that I hadn't done much THINKING lately. What with preaching trips to Charlotte and Cleveland… and Katherine getting a new hip. I just didn't have time to EVEN THINK… By the way, Katherine liked the first new hip so much, she decided to get another one.
Anyway, I took the course of least resistance, and reached into my "JUST THINKING" file, full of bits and pieces of paper with scribbled random thoughts, half formed (and baked) ideas, brief quotes, and the like. Let me share a few.
Someone said: "In the word 'wedding' the 'we' comes before I". Hey! That's God's idea of marriage as revealed in His Word. In fact the "we" includes Him.
Someone said, "It costs more to amuse a child today than it did to educate his father'. If true, what does that say about priorities???
Thomas Aquinas said, "A man's heart is right when HE wills what God wills". It can't get any RIGHTER.
Violence in Norfolk. Five people shot and killed. The inevitable question: "WHY". The word of God responds with the "bottom line" answer: We live in a world that is OUT OF WHACK AND OUT OF SYNC WITH GOD; peopled with human beings (all of us) whose hearts are entirely capable of producing evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, false witness, blasphemies… you name it. (Matt. 15:19)
But if you really want a PUZZLER, try this: THIS IS THE WORLD of which Christ was talking when He said, "GOD SO LOVED (IT). HE SENT HIS SON to save it. As the man said, "That's really SOMETHING". No!!! That's really EVERYTHING!!!
