In a TV movie one character asks another, "DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD?"
He responds, "I GO TO CHURCH A COUPLE OF TIMES A YEAR". Now, going to church may, or may not, have anything to do with "believing in God". In any event, he DIDN'T ANSWER THE QUESTION.
I got to thinking that "DO YOU BELIEVE?" seems to be the popular question. It's either asked of, or information is offered, about someone, e.g. "HE (SHE) REALLY BELIEVED IN GOD".
And then I thought, "What does the speaker mean?" Does he mean: "I know God's there?" or "I know He's for 'real'?" or "I know He's got the power to 'do stuff, change things, etc.?" BUT EVEN SATAN BELIEVES IN GOD THAT WAY.
The REAL QUESTION is "DO YOU LOVE GOD?" Jesus wraps up the first three commandments with "LOVE GOD." And God certainly loves us. So much, in fact, He gave Christ to save us.
Now, let's try this again. "DO YOU LOVE GOD?" Response: " I GO TO CHURCH A COUPLE OF TIMES A YEAR". Oh boy!!! Good luck!!! I wouldn't get by with that with Katherine, nor with God either.
