Some Thoughts On Freedom
I was thinking about "Freedom" the other day. My attention was hooked by the latest "To-Do" in Congress. It's about trying to reduce the torrent of trash produced by Hollywood et al. As a result, agonized cries of "censorship" and "free speech" are heard in the land.
Some random thoughts on the subject of freedom:
- Abuse it and lose it. (I learned that as a teen with regards to the family car.)
- We can overdose on freedom… and get sick, or worse. (I've done that on birthday cake.) How about some kids going off to college and cutting loose?
- We want freedom to make our own choices, and frequently find those choices enslave us. (I have the freedom to look as "strange" as I like, but I probably won't get a good job.)
- Freedom ought to bring forth and foster the BEST, not vomit up the WORST. Nothing is gained by using one's "freedom" to put poop in a picture of the Virgin Mary and defend it as art. (Per Brooklyn Museum of Art.)
- Jesus says, "The truth sets us free". What's the truth? (See Prodigal Son, Lk. 15.)
- We don't have the freedom to use God's gifts apart from Him. They disappear and we wind up in the pig pen. That's the Truth!
- God welcomes us home again in the Name and for the sake of Christ. With Him we enjoy the freedom and security of God's family. That's the Truth!
