I was thinking the other day about the recent mess in Washington, i.e. charges of perjury, obstruction of justice and impeachment proceedings, and the public reaction. The whole business reinforces the conviction that our most serious national problems are not primarily economic, educational or political.
They stem from wrong moral decisions. Think of it: illegitimate births, abortion, drug abuse, teen pregnancy, disrespect for authority are all the result of decisions that were made —Wrong Ones—Morally Wrong Ones.
And then I thought, "Why this moral meltdown of our society?" The answer that comes readily to my mind is that we are no longer a God-fearing people. We have rejected the rules, because we have rejected The Ruler. We don't respect the rules, because we no longer respect The Ruler.
Pretty sad. But God will still deal graciously with us if we turn to Him.
