Boy!! Was I surprised the other day. Now, I realize that some folks ARE NOT KEEN ON SURPRISES. I guess if you’ve had a few unpleasant ones, that’s understandable. For me, SURPRISES ARE USUALLY PRETTY NEAT. I like them. The GOOD kind, of course.
You know God is FULL OF SURPRISES. David registers surprise in Psalm 8, “When I look at Your heavens that Your fingers made, the moon and stars that You set up, what is man that You should even THINK of him”. On the one hand, considering who WE ARE and the colossal shambles we’ve made of God’s will and purposes. AND ON THE OTHER HAND, the gifts of His LOVE, GRACE AND FORGIVENESS IN CHRIST, you ‘gotta’ be surprised.
AND THEN, He uses OTHER PEOPLE to surprise us… and bless us. I experienced that a couple of weeks ago. Katherine and I had left town for a day and a half. Upon return, I found my office had undergone a COMPLETE MAKE-OVER… just like TV…
Two new chairs (I couldn’t get out of the old ones anymore), fresh paint, STENCILED SCRIPTURE PASSAGES ON THE WALL, my pictures and paraphernalia regrouped much more tastefully than
I had arranged them… IT SURPRISED MY SOCKS OFF!!!
Who pulled off such a wondrous SURPRISE??? “THE ELVES”, I was told. It turned out THE ELVES had names: Ginny Lehmkuhl, Barb Bohaty, Jodi Zaura and their husbands. Such nice people. Such God-given surprises!!!
