I go t to thinking the other day about the OPINION HELD BY MANY that the Christian faith, in particular and “spiritual”, in general, are pretty much NONSENSE.
Now, I guess “SENSE”, “NONSENSE, and even “COMMON SENSE”, could be considered to be in the MINDS EYE OF THE BEHOLDER. But having said that, let me share with you what I THINK IS NONSENSE.
We look at a CAR, and although we hardly, if ever, contemplate it, there are TWO RATIONAL ASSUMPTIONS about that car’s EXISTENCE:
These assumptions hold true for zillions of things from BALL POINT PENS TO SUSPENDERS AND LAPTOP COMPUTERS.
Now here’s the point: Why do we seem to readily ABANDON those two assumptions when it comes to my EYEBALL, your EAR, my CAT (KASPAR), your ROSE BUSH… the list is endless. IT INCLUDES YOU AND ME!! “NOBODY DESIGNED AND MADE SUCH. THEY JUST HAPPENED”. HOW’S THAT FOR NONSENSE.
I think what it boils down to is the fact that there either IS GOD, or there ISN”T. The SCRIPTURE has a way of touching THE POINT precisely. “THE FOOL HAS MANAGED TO CONVINCE HIMSELF THAT THERE IS NO GOD”. (My paraphrase). Psalm 53:1… And then Psalm 100. “KNOW THAT THE LORD IS GOD. HE MADE US, NOT WE OURSELVES. WE BELONG TO HIM”… UH, OH! Maybe that’s it. We don’t want to BELONG TO ANYBODY, most of all GOD. Because then, WE CAN’T BE GOD.
Anyway, knowing that HE CREATED US AND WE BELONG TO HIM AND ARE LOVED BY HIM results, as the Psalmist says in “JOY… SINGING… GLADNESS… PRAISE”.
If that’s NONSENSE, then PRAISE GOD!!!! THAT KIND OF “NONSENSE” MAKES SENSE TO ME.
