Wait 'till Next Year

My brother-in-law, Ralph, is an ardent CUB FAN. His CURRIES lost the National League title game. I sent him a word of CONDOLENCE. Here is his response.

"Thank you for your sympathy… I must confess, I fully expected it. I almost felt a sense of relief. Having been a CUB FAN for 65 years, it felt strange thinking in terms of being in the World Series. It didn't seem like the same team we've loved and supported all these years. We are used to being happy when we WIN MORE GAMES THAN WE LOSE, which isn't very often, and this was too much to take.

"Furthermore, the slogan of all good CUB FANS was "WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR" and had we won, there WOULD HAVE BEEN NOTHING TO WAIT FOR. So we shall wait for next year, when surely we will have a very good chance to win more games than we lose."

HOPE… RESILIENCE… BOUNCING BACK… These are some of the words that come to mind. A GREAT ATTITUDE… NO DESPAIR ALLOWED!!! It's sort of an ANALOGY to the CHRISTIAN ATTITUDE TOWARD LIFE.

See 2 Cor. 4:9ff: We may be down, BUT NOT OUT.
See Phil. 3:13, 14: We don't dwell on the past but FOCUS ON THE FUTURE.
See Josh. 3:5: We develop an OPTIMISTIC outlook, because God's going to do "WONDERFUL THINGS AMONG US".
See Rom. 8:18: We firmly believe the BEST IS YET TO COME.

We don't wait ONLY FOR NEXT YEAR, BUT WE WAIT ON THE LORD, for all sorts of GREAT THINGS WILL BE HAPPENING AND HOPES FULFILLED, Is. 40:31.
