The other day I was thinking about Lucille Hollman's cinnamon buns, fondly known in the church office as "sinbuns". Someone said recently, "Those 'sinbuns' ARE TO DIE FOR"… meaning, they're absolutely wonderful, BUT SINFULLY SO, what with all those calories.
Now, here we are in the midst of this LENTEN SEASON, and I thought THAT'S W HAT CHRIST SAID ABOUT US, "THEY ARE TO DIE FOR"… and then He went to the cross and DID JUST THAT!!! We're SINFUL, but CHRIST DIED FOR US… in our place, CARRYING ALL OUR GUILT. We are declared INNOCENT, FORGIVEN.
Think about this! It's kind of curious: WE talk about NEEDING GOD. But HE speaks, in the Gospel, about WANTING US. There is a difference, isn't there? WE NEED! HE WANTS!! I think those two thoughts say a lot about GOD …and a lot about us.
In the mind of CHRIST we sinful folks were WANTED SO MUCH that "WE WERE TO DIE FOR".
