When Jesus returned to His hometown, we might expect that He was welcomed with a hero’s return as the local boy who had become a celebrity made His return. But instead He is met by unbelief. They could not believe that Jesus is someone special, because they knew that He is simply one of them, and they didn’t see Him as anyone special.
Take special note of verse 5, “and He could do no mighty work there…” The gospels make it clear that the healing that Jesus did was received by faith. In other words, only those who believed that Jesus could heal them were healed. The reason Jesus was not able to heal many people in His hometown was that there were not many who believed in Him!
Who is this Jesus? One who has the power to save those who simply trust in Him.
