We need to have no fear of the Day of the Lord, for we are not living in darkness caused by our sins, but we are living in the light of Christ and the forgiveness and power over sin that He gives to us.  Verse 9 is so key, “For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.”  The Day of the Lord will not be a day of judgment and wrath for those who believe, but a day of salvation and hope!

Paul then gives final instructions to the church in Thessalonica.  His list of exhortations is something that each of us should be reminded of every morning when we wake up, especially those parts about testing everything and holding on to what is good.  A great reminder to always test what we hear and see to what He has revealed to us in His Word, not simple doing what we think is right or what others say, but what God says!

Paul then closes the letter with a blessing (vss. 23-4), a request for prayer (vs. 25), the holy kiss (vs. 26, think of is as a modern handshake), final exhortation, and a benediction – the final reminder of our hope, the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ!
