The fears expressed at the end of the previous chapter came to fruition.  Sheba led a rebellion against David and Judah, trying to rally the other tribes against David.  David told his new general, Amasa to rally the troops, but it takes Amasa longer than normal.  Abishai, the second in command goes out with David’s mighty men (including Joab), to meet Amasa and then to destroy the rebel Sheba.

Joab once again shows his deceptive, murderous side, killing Amasa so that he could once again be David’s general.  And once again David does nothing to punish his general for this murder.

Why is it that the evil never seem to be punished or held accountable for their actions?  The evil like Joab thrive while the good lie Amasa don’t.  Remember the end of the story.  Joab is finally punished by David’s son in 1 Kings.  The evil will be held accountable for their evil deeds and punished at the final judgment, while those whose trust is in Christ will be rewarded with heaven.   Just keep focused on the end!
