We get a lesson on prayer from David in this section of scripture. David knew what God had said – the child would die. When it became sick David fasted and prayed, asking God to have mercy on the child night and day for seven days. That is persistent prayer, an area of prayer where I think most of us often fail.
When God answered the prayers of David with a “No” and the child died, we learn another lesson on prayer from David. He accepted the answer from God. He wasn’t angry with Him, he didn’t tell God He owed him after all those prayers, he accepted God’s will and returned to his life.
Pray persistently! That is what God desires for us - to consistently and persistently bring to Him our concerns and our cares, trusting in Him to answer them as He knows best.
