David thought he had covered everything up.  Uriah was dead, and his wife, Bathsheba was now David’s wife.  No one knew any better.  Life was good.  Well, not really.  God knew what David had done, and spoke to Nathan to confront David.

Nathan told a parable to David in order to have David convict himself.  David saw his sins, and confessed.  God forgave him, but still said there would be consequences from our sins.  David’s consequences – his son would die, and there would be dissension and evil from within his own house.

Sometimes we think that just because God forgives, that He’ll take away all consequences of that sin.  We will still struggle with the result of the sin and the damage that it causes to our relationships, our health, and whatever other way it might impact us.   But we have His promise, that He will take away the ETERNAL consequences – separation from God forever.  And that’s what counts!
