Notice how one, innocent, little thing can grow and snowball into something huge.  That little thing for David was not doing what he normally did, what was expected, but instead he stayed at home.  Notice verse 1, “In the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to battle…David remained at Jerusalem.”  Instead of doing the task of a king, something he normally did, he remained at home.  And that one innocent decision caused other problems: lust, adultery, deception, and finally murder.

Maybe not  to that extreme, but we fall into that pattern sometimes, don’t we?  Maybe we begin with a small lie, and it slowly grows until someone is hurt.  Or perhaps it is a small thing you refuse to forgive someone over.  That small thing grows into a grudge, then anger, then hatred for that person.

When you are digging yourself deeper into a hole, stop digging!  Admit your sin to yourself, the one you’ve sinned against, and to God.  He will forgive you, and pluck you out of that hole!
