Once again we see how David relied on the Lord for important decisions.  At a time when he might be more concerned about revenge than anything else, he asked God (through the priest, Abiathar) for direction in his response.  Notice that in some of the previous chapters, where David’s response and actions are questionable at best, he did not check with God for direction.  He realized that this was an important decision that he needed to make and turned to the LORD.

Unfortunately, we don’t have someone like Abiathar who can give us a direct answer from the LORD.  Yet we have something David did not have:  direct access to God through His Son, Jesus.  Because of His sacrifice, we can now go directly to our God in prayer.  Bring your troubles, questions, and hopes to God.  He WILL listen and he WILL answer!
