Integrity. One of David’s strengths. He had the opportunity to eliminate the source of all his troubles. He was encouraged by his own friends who justified the action as being OK. Yet David knew that Saul had been anointed king by the LORD. He knew that even though he (David) had also been anointed king, that he did not have the right to take the life of Saul to achieve that kingship.
Integrity is doing the right thing, even when it’s hard to do. We are often faced with many situations when doing the wrong thing might be easily justified. Yet it’s still wrong. Integrity does the right thing. Notice that David even felt guilty about cutting off the edge of Saul’s robe.
Saul, on the other hand, shows the opposite of integrity, very seldom doing the right thing and often trying to take the easy way out. May God grant us the integrity of David.
