We see the results of one of David’s lies. He had lied to Ahimelech the priest, and Ahimelech and almost his whole family and town were destroyed by the angry response of Saul. In the midst of this terrible narrative we once again see stark differences between the selfish leadership of Saul, and the Godly leadership of David.

Saul made the people feel guilty so they would share with him the whereabouts of David. He wouldn’t listen to the reasoning of Ahimelech the priest. He had not only Ahimelech killed, but also his family and whole town, to send a message of fear to those who might think about helping David.

David realized his mistake, took responsibility for it, and did what he could to help protect the son of Ahimelech from the danger he faced because of David. We all will make mistakes. Godly leaders don’t cover them up, but admit them, and work to resolve the problems their mistake caused in the lives of others. May He lead us to be His Godly leaders!
