What would you do for your friend? Would you protect him from danger? Would you support him so that he could one day take the key position that you were in line for? Would you trust him more than your own parents? Would you put your life at risk for his?
Jonathan did just that for David. Unlike his father, Saul, Jonathan knew that the LORD was with David. David would not have been able to do the great things he did without the LORD’s power. Jonathan ceded his rights, his kingdom, his very life to his friend David.
Remember Jonathan’s example when you are dealing with friends. First of all, make sure that they are walking in the ways of the LORD. If not, it might not be wise to trust them, or sacrifice yourself fully for them, but instead it is important for you to help them walk the walk of faith. It is important for us to sacrifice for them, giving of our time and our energy to help them in times of need. After all, Jesus himself showed his love for us, his imperfect friends, by giving His very life for us. The least we can do is to give a little bit of our time for our friends.
