Saul didn’t seem too anxious to be king, did he? First, he with held what Samuel had told him about the kingdom from his family, then he hid when he knew he was to be the king, and finally, after it was all over, and he had been shown as the one the LORD had chosen to be king, he simply returned to his home…

Sometimes we are a little reluctant to do the things God has chosen us to do. Sometimes the task seems too big. Sometimes it might seem not very important. Sometimes we don’t see how we could fit it into our schedules. Yet it is the task given by God to us. It might too big for us, but never for Him working through us.

Also notice the last two verses. As we do the task given to us, we need to remember, there will be ‘men of valor’ who are willing to join in with us in our pursuit, but there will also be ‘some worthless fellows’ trying to distract us from the task at hand. Embrace those ‘men of valor’ and ignore those ‘worthless fellows’ as you do the task given to you.
