After couple of journeys (to St. Louis and Peoria on vacation and to Idaho on a mission trip), we get back to our journey through Galatians continues with a very key passage that explains the origins and purpose of the Law. The covenant (promise) was made to Abraham centuries before the law was given to Moses. This covenant was made pointing forward to one (Christ) and it, like all covenants could not be made null or changed.
The Law was put into place not to give life (like the Promise would) but to give the people of God a way to conduct themselves until the Promise would come. It was never meant to earn God’s favor or grace (which you can’t earn), because then it would have voided the covenant with Abraham. Note verse 24, “the law was our guardian until Christ came…”
The promise is to all who have been baptized and believe. There is no distinction between Jew or Greek, man or woman, black or white, or any other delineation we make in our world. We are ALL one in Jesus Christ and heirs to the promise made to Abraham.
