Do we really think God is God?  I know it sounds like a stupid question, but consider it for just a moment.  It seems to be what God is saying through the prophet Malachi in today’s reading.  We ignore his commandments.  We rob Him by not returning to Him a part of what He has blessed us.  We trust in ourselves for provision and not in Him.  We consider it foolishness to serve God during the week.

To our foolishness God says, “Trust Me!   Those commands I gave were for YOUR good, not mine.  Trust me with all that stuff you work so hard to accumulate, all that stuff that I gave to you.  Trust me all week long, not just with your words on the weekend.  Trust Me!”

Notice verse 6 again.  “For I the LORD do not change; therefore you… are not consumed.”  Even though in our stupidity we treat God as less than He really is, He still loves us!  He still forgives us!  His still provides for us daily and shows us daily that He is who He says He is – the one true God!  Maybe one day we’ll start treating Him that way…
