Let me get this right.  They saw our resurrected Lord, and yet they doubted?  How different are they from us?  We, too, see the resurrected Lord each week in worship.  We confess it in our creeds and in our songs, yet sometimes we doubt as well.  We doubt if He can really forgive us for the things in our past.  We doubt if He really is with us to the end of the age.  We doubt His ability to repair our broken lives.

Yet even to those who doubted, Jesus still gives the great commission - the sending of these imperfect people to do His work of sharing His Word with the world.   He doesn’t use only perfect people with perfect faith to do His work of spreading the Gospel.  If he did there wouldn’t be anyone doing that task.  Instead He uses all of us, imperfect yet forgiven sinners, with imperfect faith that doubts at time.  And He gives us the promise “I am with you to the end of the age.”  It is He who is at work within us as we each do the task He has given to us.

What an amazing way to end the gospel!  With a call to each of us to share that same message of forgiveness and grace and love to the world filled with guilt and shame and hatred.
