I’m looking at this parable different than I have in the past.  After looking at this in its context, I see it a little different than I have in the past.  This parable is clearly about stewardship; using the abilities, resources, and gifts that God has given you for good in His kingdom.  While this is very true reading of the parable there is something more.

We often see the focus of this parable as the present, yet its focus is not on the present, but on the future.  This is an end-times parable.  The lesson it teaches relates to the time when Jesus will come again.  One might read it as something we GOT to do.  We GOT to use our gifts and abilities and resources for God or we will not be able to enter into heaven.  Look closely at the passage.  Those who were rewarded were those who were FAITHFUL.  Those who knew their master (relationship), trusted in him, and then they GET to served him out of that faith relationship.

We, too, know our LORD and trust in Him.  And we don’t GOT to do things (required), but GET to do things to demonstrate that love for Him and His love for us and for others.  (Thanks to Pastor Smith for the GOT to/GET to image from a sermon over a year ago.)
