I’ve combined two day’s readings to catch up.  Both readings deal with the seven woes to the Pharisees and scribes.  Notice that Jesus’ complaint is not just that they are doing things that are wrong, but more importantly that they are doing things that lead others away from the truth.  That is even worse than their hypocrisy.

My favorite verse in this passage is 24, “You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!”  Isn’t that our human nature?  We so focus on a minor thing, that it becomes greater than we think.  In fact, we focus so much on it that we lose sight of the major thing of Christianity – Jesus Christ!  How often do we hear Christianity being about how we are to live, and what we are to do, instead of what Christ has done for us?  Strain the gnats if you must, but don’t swallow that camel!
