Right after Jesus enters Jerusalem, the confrontations with the religious leaders begin.  The first thing recorded is Jesus going into the temple and causing a huge disturbance, chasing out the money changers and merchants.  These were the people working with the chief priests to “help” the people coming into the temple have the right type of money for the temple tax and a dove or pigeon to offer as a sacrifice.  That wasn’t the problem, it was actually a good service because many of those coming were from off, unable to bring a dove of their own or have the right kind of money.  The problem was that the money changers had a huge charge for the exchange, and the dove sellers were selling their wares for double or more what they would cost outside the temple walls, with some of the profit going to the chief priests.

But that wasn’t what they had a problem with.  Read again verse 15, they were indignant that Jesus was healing people and the children were crying out to Him in the temple.  And much like He refuted satan at His temptation, Jesus quoted scripture to them - the second time in this short passage.  It kind of reminds us of the important of studying and memorizing Scripture, doesn’t it?
