Jesus goes to Tyre and Sidon, not to continue his ministry there, but to escape the accusations of the Pharisees. Remember that in the first part of chapter 15 scribes and Pharisees came up from Jerusalem to confront Jesus. Jesus explains to them that it’s not the outward appearance that makes one unclean, but the inward thoughts and attitudes.
And it is in Tyre and Sidon that Jesus finds one with a true faith - a non-Jewish, Canaanite woman. Remember that Jesus said that He was sent to the lost sheep of Israel. His ministry was to the Jews, yet here where you would least expect it, from a person from whom you would least expect to hear or see it, we see Jesus commend someone for their faith. Not a disciple, not a Jew, not even a man, but an outsider Canaanite woman confesses Jesus to the God, “Lord” and Messiah “the Son of David.”
God doesn’t judge us on who we are, our background or our actions. He judges us only on faith, and faith alone.
