Another point to remember when reading and understanding parables is to consider the major and minor theme, yet being careful not to confuse the minor the major.  In this parable of the weeds, Jesus shows the major theme to be the final judgment.  Nothing should overshadow this major theme.

I also see a minor theme in the weeds.  There are people that satan places in our lives to distract us and keep us from being productive.  These weeds are harmful, yet it is not our responsibility to judge them, God will.  It is our job to love them, and loving them means that sometimes we need to point out their behaviors that are destructive to relationships, their words that are offensive, their thoughts that are impure.  Yet we do this out of love and compassion for them, not out of anger or spite.

Who are the weeds in your life?  How can you continue to show them God’s love?
