This chapter ends with yet another confrontation with the Pharisees. “Give us a sign” they demand. Yet every time Jesus gave a sign, they would turn it into something against Him. So Jesus responded with the promise of the greatest sign – He would be raised from the dead after 3 days in the heart of the earth! He would conquer death once for all. Yet even after that great sign, they still would not believe!
Sometimes we are too much like the Pharisees, aren’t we? We demand things from God, forgetting all the things He has given to us. We complain about what seems to be God’s lack of concern for our well being, setting aside the ultimate sacrifice He made for us by sending His Son to this Earth to die for us.
Even though we are like the Pharisees at times, we are very different from them. Even though we doubt, even though we forget, even though we complain, we know we have faith. We know we are forgiven. We know the truth of who Jesus is and what He was sent to do for us!
