What happened to our Prince of Peace? Should He instead be called our Prince of Swords? This is one of those difficult and often misunderstood statements of Jesus. Is this passage saying that in order to be a good Christian you need to destroy all your family relationships? Absolutely NOT!!!
Yet it is saying that we need to put our relationship with Jesus ABOVE all our other relationships, even those with our family. Don’t get me wrong, family is very important, yet if we place them above our God, they become more important than Jesus, they become our God.
What relationships do you hold more important that the one with Jesus? Don’t do anything to hurt those relationships, but work harder on your relationship with Jesus to make it even stronger - maybe by reading God’s Word more, or praying, or worshiping more often. Any other ideas?
