In Tuesday’s reading, we read how the disciples were told to go out taking nothing with them, to trust God for all their provision. In today’s reading Jesus pushes them a little bit farther – actually a lot farther. He tells them He’s sending them out as sheep among wolves. I can’t imagine a better word picture than this one. There is nothing in more danger than a sheep in a pack of wolves.
Horrible things would happen to them, all because of the name of Jesus, yet they would endure. He would strengthen them, encourage them, and give them the words to speak. There were to do this out of fear and respect for God. Others might be able to threaten us physical harm, but they can’t destroy our soul, only the Father can. We simply trust in Him, do His will, obey His commands, share His love with other.
