At the end of chapter 9, Jesus talked about the need for more people to go to the lost sheep of Israel, and in this passage he does something about it.  He calls 12 of His disciples and sends them out.  Notice some of the instructions:  they were to go only to the people of God, to the Jews, and to no one else.  They were also told what to do:  proclaim and perform miracles, the two things that Jesus was doing.  They were to take nothing with them.  They were also to do what Jesus commanded without pay, but to accept what the people offered to them.

There is a cost to the sharing of our faith.  The cost is a giving up of ourselves and those things that we hold as important or even necessary.   The cost is surrendering your self reliance and not knowing where your next meal and next place to sleep will be.  The cost is having people rejecting you, your message, and the one who sent you.

Yet this message is not just to be shared by the twelve, or pastors, or missionaries.  YOU are a sent one, sent into your neighborhood, your workplace, your family, your school.  Where ever you might be, remember that you have a message to share by how you live your life and by the words that you speak.  Yes, there will be a cost, but Jesus never said that following Him would be easy.
