Once again, Jesus reminds us to check our real motives when we do something. When you pray, do you pray so that others will compliment you? Do you focus on your own wants and desires? Do you focus on the physical? Look at what Jesus says about prayer. First, don’t pray to get other’s praise, but make prayer what prayer should be, you talking to your God. Second, focus on the spiritual, not on the physical. Out of the seven petitions in the Lord’s Prayer, how many focus on the physical as opposed to the spiritual? SIX focus on the spiritual and on God’s kingdom, and only ONE focus on the physical.
It’s not wrong to pray for our physical needs or desires; God wants us to pray about all things. Yet our focus of our prayers should not only or mainly about the physical, but for the spiritual, the greater, more important things in this world.
