Sometimes we (Christians) tend to think that Jesus came to abolish the law. That because of what Jesus did on the cross for us we no longer need to keep the ten commandments. Even though everything in this world might change, God’s laws for us will NEVER change. Not only that, but we are not just to obey the letter of the law, but, Jesus says, the intent of the law. None of us has murdered any one, yet how often do we feel angry with someone, or hold a grudge in our hearts. The letter of the law might say don’t kill, but the intent of the law is love, compassion, forgiveness, and reconciliation. The purpose of these laws is not to make our live difficult, but to make our lives the best they can be while still living in this sin-filled world. It’s much better for us to live in compassion and forgiveness than with anger and holding a grudge.
Is there someone who you are holding anger or a grudge against in your heart? Someone you can’t seem to forgive for the pain they’ve cause you? Bring it to the LORD, pray that He would give you the power and ability to forgive that person, and keep praying. He will hear your prayers!
