In this passage we see two different groups following Jesus. The first group – Andrew, Peter, James, and John – were called by Jesus and quickly responded and followed Him, turning their backs on their business, family, and friends. The second group was those that followed Jesus when they saw the miracles that He did. These two types of following are different. The first is by faith, and the second by sight. The first is initiated by God, the second is initiated by man. While neither is perfect, the first will last while the other fades with time.
I thank God for the faith He has given to me, a faith that is not based upon sight or upon my actions or response, yet a faith that still responds to His calling to be His disciple are to be His witness.
