This section transitions from the early life of Jesus and His preparations for the ministry to His actual ministry. This transition once again contains an Old Testament quote to help us see that all that was happening was part of God’s big plan. That this one who was preaching is the one that God promised to be the great light in Isaiah 9, had come to this earth.
Matthew writes a lot about ‘the Kingdom of Heaven’ and ‘the Kingdom of God.’ They can often be used interchangeably. Each of them can refer to either God’s reign coming to earth through the Man, Jesus Christ, or to the coming reign of God at the last days. Here, Jesus is speaking about his public ministry – God’s kingdom being revealed to the people.
