Provision, protection, and power: three of mankind’s greatest needs and desires, three areas that God has promised to give to us. Yet so often these are the three areas that satan attacks against us. First, we begin to believe that God is not meeting our needs when we don’t get our wants. Second, we blame God for not protecting us when something bad happens to us (even if that bad thing is caused by a specific sin). And finally, we often reject God’s saving power because it is not the power we desire – a power to control our lives or the lives of others.
We all too often give into temptations and rely on ourselves or others for the 3 P’s. But Jesus did what we couldn’t do, and because of continues to give us provision (His saving grace), protection (from the attacks of the evil one), and power (from the Holy Spirit to live as He has called us).
Notice where Jesus found His ability to face the evil one – in God’s Word. That’s where we can turn as well! Think of an ongoing temptation you face. Which of the three P’s is it tied to? Where in Scripture can you find encouragement to fight off the evil one?
