Jon Hitz was commissioned as a short-term missionary to Tanzania, Africa at the 8:00 a.m. service on Sunday, May 20. Jon will be serving there very soon. You are encouraged to remember him in your daily prayers that God would protect him and use him to be a blessing to the people there and them to be a blessing to him as well.
From this narrative about Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch we can learn quite a bit. First, it’s best to lead the Spirit’s guiding. How often do we feel led or encouraged to speak to someone, or help them in some way, but we let the situation pass? Could it be that we are ignoring the leading of the Holy Spirit? Philip had a thriving ministry in Samaria, yet was led by the Holy Spirit to a totally different place – to the area of Gaza, south of Jerusalem – to a single man in the midst of a spiritual crisis.
Second, reading God’s Word by ourselves isn’t always best. We need others to help us understand God’s Word. Find some trusted friends, some people that know the Bible, and study occasionally with them. Or maybe join a Bible study at church. I know that there are people who know a lot more about the Bible than you do. That’s alright! Learn from them!
But most of all, BE IN GOD’S WORD! It is there where God reveals to us His truth!
