After a break of a couple of chapters, the Pharisees are back attacking Jesus. Remember that the Pharisees were legalists, not just demanding obedience to the 10 commandments, but to 613 rules mostly made up by men. One of the rules had to do with washing of hands before the meal. According to the Pharisees, it was a SIN to eat with unwashed hands, not simply a matter of bad hygiene.
Jesus confronts them with a passage out of Isaiah. The problem with legalism is that religion is no longer a based upon that faith relationship with God, but it becomes about obeying the rules. The more the focus is placed on the rules, the less and less it is focused on our relationship with our Living God.
Who is this Jesus? One who wants us to have a relationship with us based upon our trust in Him, and not our saying the right words or doing the right things.

We Are a Friendly Church
You'll like the warm atmosphere and the genuine interest shown in you. We try hard to see that "you're a stranger only once."
We Are a Christ Centered Church
We proclaim Jesus Christ as the only Savior of men. Our task is to bring people to Christ and Christ to people. We believe the Bible alone holds the keys to the basic question of life.
We Are a Purposeful Church
We believe that God saved people for a purpose. Through Christ He wants to give people an abundant life. That life is expressed in loving service to God and others.
Traditional and Contemporary Services
During the summer of 2012, the Peace youth group is sponsoring two youth mission trips. Below are the youth going on each trip.
PINK Canada VBS Mission Trip (July 2012)
Appalachian Mountains - Logan County, WV (June 2012)
There is still room available for the mission trip to West Virginia. For more information, talk to your small group leader or Pastor Burma.
Please keep these youth and their adult leaders in your prayers.
All high school youth are invited to Duct Tape Night, at the Peace Youth Room on Wednesday, February 1, starting at 7pm. Duct Tape is a night dedicated to (what else) Duct Tape. The night will be a Duct Tape Competition (awards given for Most Original, Most Practical, and Most Bizarre), Duct Tape games, and lessons taught by Duct Tape. As usual there will also be food (not made of Duct Tape, although that would be interesting) and time to hang out with friends and meet new ones. The youth groups of our local congregations have been invited to join us for the night so this should be a great evening! Feel free to invite your friends!
Junior Youth – Youth Quake!!! What's a YouthQuake? It's an amazing weekend (April 13-15, 2012) of fun, spiritual growth especially designed for grades 6th-8th. There will be 500 other youth and adult leaders, two bands, an amazing speaker, games, food, time to hang out with your friends, and time to make new friends. Cost for this event is $132. If you would like your child to go, but money is an issue, please speak to Pastor Burma. For more information and a registration form, check out the Junior Youth space on the Ministry Board in the Fellowship Hall. Early-bird deadline is February 1st!!!
